Two weeks around the whole country: Bucharest, Transylvania’s castles, Maramures, the painted monasteries of Bucovina, Iasi, the Danube Delta and the Black Sea coast.
Fourteen days lets you do the full Grand Tour of Romania — one big circle connecting every historical region without ever backtracking. The first week follows the classic Transylvania route: Bucharest, Peles Castle, Bran and Brasov, Viscri and Sighisoara, Sibiu, Alba Iulia with Corvin Castle, and Turda Salt Mine ending in Cluj. Then comes the part most hurried tourists miss. Maramures preserves Europe's last living rural civilisation: the Merry Cemetery of Sapanta, the wooden churches, Barsana Monastery and the Mocanita steam train on the Vaser Valley — the last forestry steam railway in Europe. Next is Bucovina with the painted monasteries of Voronet, Moldovita and Sucevita, their 16th-century exterior frescoes miraculously preserved, followed by the Princely Citadel of Suceava and Iasi with its Palace of Culture. The final leg descends to the Danube Delta, Europe's greatest natural paradise, and ends on the Black Sea coast in Constanta with its iconic Casino and the Dolphinarium, before returning to Bucharest.
