Alba Carolina Fortress

Alba Carolina Fortress, located in Alba Iulia, is a remarkable example of a Vauban-style fortification, built between 1715 and 1738. This fortress, with its massive walls and bastions, spans an area of 70 hectares, making it one of the largest fortresses in Romania. Besides its impressive appearance, the fortress holds profound historical significance, being the site where Transylvania united with Romania in 1918.

Entering through the Third Gate, visitors are greeted by a panorama of fortified walls and beautifully landscaped parks. In addition to the walls, the fortress houses the Cathedral of the Reunification of the Nation, an imposing place of worship built in the Neo-Byzantine style. Inside the fortress, the National Museum of the Union provides a detailed insight into the region's history.
